This is not the confusion of Zhao Xiang alone. Both clearly stated that the responsibility of auto companies and power battery producers should be extended to the battery recycling segment.
Lithium Grid News: "I only know the battery life-changing replacement. As for where the battery is replaced, I really don't know." Recently, Beijing car owner Zhao Xiang bought a new energy car in 2013, showing a shortened battery life. problem. According to the "Battery Life Guarantee" policy introduced by the manufacturer, he went to the 4S shop to replace it. In the face of the dismantled battery, Zhao Xiang gave a question: How to deal with these old power batteries?
This is not the confusion of Zhao Xiang alone. China's first batch of new energy vehicle power battery replacement period is approaching, the problem of recycling and disposal of used batteries is in sight.
In 2020, the power battery will focus on “retiring”.
“As the most unique component of a new energy vehicle, the service life of the power battery is much shorter than other components in the vehicle. Generally, the service life is 5 to 8 years.” Wang Wei, chairman of Sichuan Qiyang Automobile Group, believes that this means that the first batch of new energy vehicles entering the market in China will gradually usher in the replacement period of power battery.
According to statistics, in 2017, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in China reached 777,000 units, and the cumulative holdings in the year were about 1.8 million units. According to projections, by 2020, power battery replacement will usher in explosive growth.
At present, the domestic power battery is mainly a lithium-ion battery, and the positive electrode material in its composition may cause heavy metal pollution, and the electrolyte also has strong corrosiveness and toxicity, and is easy to generate toxic chemical gas. "A 20-gram mobile phone battery can pollute the water of three standard swimming pools. If it is abandoned on the land, it can pollute 1 square kilometer of land for about 50 years." Wu Feng, a professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, once worked on lithium-ion materials. The environmental hazard of mobile phone batteries was analyzed. It can be seen from this that what happens if a new energy vehicle battery with a much larger volume is handled at will.
First use the ladder, then dismantle and recycle.
“It is very tricky to dispose of the used power battery, but if it is used properly, this 'hot potato' can also turn “destroy into treasure”.” In the national “863” plan, the general expert of energy-saving and new energy vehicle major projects According to group expert Xiao Chengwei, by 2020, it is estimated that the lithium battery decommissioned by the new energy vehicle will be about 50GWh (electric power unit, 1GWh=1 million kWh), and the market space will reach 10 billion yuan.
However, due to its large size and complex composition, power battery recycling and reuse faces many limitations and higher technical thresholds.
"Batteries that have been replaced by new energy vehicles can be used first." The relevant technical staff of Beiqi New Energy Company told the Workers Daily that according to the standard, the capacity of the power battery is reduced to less than 70% of the rated capacity. Suitable for new energy vehicles. "But the chemical composition inside the battery has not changed, and some of the power can be stored. Therefore, the scrapped battery can be collected and used in places where the requirements are not very high." The technician introduced that this is called "step utilization."
"But what the recycling party is worried about is that this method requires that the model and parameters of the used batteries are basically the same, so that they can be assembled and operated together." The technician believes that because China does not have a unified standard for power batteries, it should be widely used. There are still difficulties.
According to reports, controlling the quality and safety of decommissioned batteries is a difficult point in the use of technology. It is necessary to develop relevant testing technologies and equipment to accurately determine whether decommissioned batteries can enter the market and determine the application scenarios.
The reporter found that as of now, there are no large-scale enterprises involved in power battery recycling in China. The reason is that the cost of recycling and disassembly exceeds the value of the battery and lacks profit points.
Enterprises must be responsible, and policies must be supported.
In March this year, the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission issued the “Shenzhen City Pilot Work Plan for the Construction of National New Energy Vehicle Power Battery Regulatory Recycling System”.Prior to this, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other seven ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Interim Measures for the Management of Recycling and Utilization of Power Battery for New Energy Vehicles". Both clearly stated that the responsibility of auto companies and power battery producers should be extended to the battery recycling segment. The successive introduction of these policies is forcing relevant companies to take action.
Since last year, Beiqi New Energy has launched the “Qingtianzhu Project”. It plans to invest 10 billion yuan by 2022, build 3,000 optical storage and power stations across the country, and allocate 500,000 vehicles for replacement. 5GWh.
BYD, which uses "battery life-saving" as one of the selling points, commissioned the 4S shop to recycle the used batteries and send them back to the factory for testing, so as to decide whether to continue to use or to use wet recycling for dismantling. Because the same type of power battery is recycled, BYD has great convenience in the use of the ladder.
“Whether it is the use of ladders or recycling, the premise is to be able to monitor the flow of used batteries and ensure that they flow into technically and qualified manufacturers so that the entire industry can operate in a healthy and orderly manner.” During the National Conference this year, the National People’s Congress Chen Hong, chairman of Shanghai Automotive Group, proposed to increase the power battery coding information of new energy vehicle owners in the social credit system. After the battery is recycled, the recycling company reports to the management organization to periodically update the personal credit information to prevent the owner from disassembling the battery and selling it illegally in the market.
